This location was designated by Brigham Young on July 28, 1847 to be the site of the new Mormon temple after leaving Carthage, Missouri.
They had only been in the Salt Lake Valley for 4 days.
The Temple site was dedicated by Brigham Young on February 14, 1853, and the cornerstone was laid on April 6th of that same year.
